VOA News reviews the social and economic situation in Aceh,
Indonesia, where Building Bridges to the Future was one
of the few foundations to fund projects for tsunami- and
conflict-affected communities. BBF organized adult education
classes in a region where many could not go to school
during the 30 years of conflict. Additionally, BBF provided
livestock enterprises to create jobs, profits, and nourishment
for the community. The families raising over 80 goats earn
$40 a day from selling milk.

The New York Times reviews Sara Henderson's humanitarian efforts
to help an oppressed group of refugees from Myanmar who landed
in East Aceh, Indonesia, in early February 2009. JMD lead the
effort to secure basic human needsclothing, food, cooking
supplies, and toiletriesfrom several generous donors and
other NGOs. Local authorities established a refugee camp and
Sara discusses the difficulties of keeping the camp well-equipped
and the refugees in good condition with very few resources.
JMD and Building Bridges to the Future are pressing for funding
to continue providing basic needs to the refugees and better
manage the camp in the months ahead.
